⟨땅, 땅, 땅, 흙이 말했다⟩2019 는 작가가 2011년 서울 국립극장 소극장 판에서 ⟨땅, 흙이 말했다⟩라는 제목으로 처음 시작하였고, 2012년 뒤셀도르프에서 ⟨땅⟩이라는 제목으로 선보인 이후 세 번째 버전으로 진행되는 퍼포먼스 설치 작업이다. 벽을 향해 흙을 던지는 행위와 던지는 순간 “땅”하고 울리는 소리가 강력한 경험적 순간을 만들어낸다. 2012년 ⟨땅⟩에서는 음악감독 페터 간(Peter Gahn)이 흙 던지는 퍼포먼스를 보고 작곡한 곡을 작가의 내레이션, 클라리넷, 첼로, 피아노 연주로 선보이기도 했다. 벽에 흙을 던지며 땅땅땅 소리를 내는 것은 흙소리이자 총소리이고, 벽을 뚫는 퍼포머의 몸 자체이다.

Cho Eunji’s works are centered on the experiments of resetting territory and spiritual boundaries with urban remains such as mud and dust. Cho’s works which have been focused on the “performing act of time” carried out by arts in forms of music, performance, conversation and lecture lead us to encounter an individual and the reality alienated from not only the collective violence but also the collectivization of the violent memories through intermediate space that constantly moves and changes. ‘Dtang’, The Mud Said2019 was first performed at the National Theater of Korea in 2011, and this is the third version of performance installation work following Dtang performed at Dusseldorf in 2012. The act of throwing mud toward the wall and the sound of “Dtang” resonates at the moment create a powerful moment of experience. For the performance in Dusseldorf, a musical piece that the music director Peter Gahn produced, inspired by Cho’s mud throwing performance, was played with the artist’s narration, clarinet, cello, and piano. The sound she makes while she throws mud on the wall is the sound of gunfire and the performer’s body itself that penetrates the wall.
