작가는 이 작업을 위해 제주지역 서천꽃밭을 배경으로 하는 신화를 리서치한다. 제주 신화는 번성꽃을 피운 신은 이승을, 검뉴을 꽃을 피운 신은 저승을 차지하며 삶과 죽음을 분리한다. 서천꽃밭은 두 꽃이 함께 자라는, 이승과 저승이 연결되며 삶과 죽음의 순환을 위한 매개 공간이며, 파괴된 현실 세계를 원상으로 되돌려놓기 위한 공간이다.

⟨Mud Blossom⟩은 꽃밭이라는 이종공간에서 카오스와 코스모스의 순환을 통해 재생에 대한 아시아적 사유를 보여준다.

For this work, the mythologies in the Jeju Island’s Seocheon region was of particular subject of re- search to the artist. Jeju’s mythology tells of a spirit which blooms the Beonseong-kkot (prosperity flower) as occupying this reality, and also of a spirit which blooms the Geomnyueul-kkot (also known as Surae-myeolmang-akshim-kkot, meaning “wheel of destruction and vice flower”) occupying the underworld; this is how life and death is kept apart. Seocheon Flowerbed is where the two flowers blossom together, a space where the two worlds are mediated; where life and death circulates and the destruction of this reality is returned to its original state. The artist reinterprets the heterogenic space of the flowerbed through contemporary art.
